Beatrice has been working as an occupational therapist since 2013 and has experience in social services, specialist schools, the NHS, and for specialist providers. The majority of her career has been spent within the specialist area of neuro rehabilitation either in an inpatient setting or the community.
Beatrice is confident working with individuals affected by traumatic and organic brain injuries, including progressive conditions. She is able to assess and treat clients, as well as plan and recommend future therapeutic intervention and equipment needs. Beatrice has experience in using standardised, functional and behavioural assessments to ensure a holistic assessment. She is confident in setting goals and problem solving with clients, so they can engage in the activities they need and want to do, whether that is managing personal care activities or getting back to work and driving. She has supported numerous clients move from a 24-hour care setting to more independent living.
Beatrice uses a range of person-centred approaches and techniques to overcome the cognitive, physical and behavioural difficulties associated with the client’s injury. Beatrice is passionate about creating a 24-hour rehab approach for clients and an environment which is designed around the client’s goals. She gives training to carers, families and therapy staff on individual rehabilitation programmes and therapeutic approaches and confidently works alongside other professionals to ensure the client’s goals are central to the input.
Beatrice’s experience has mainly been with adults however prior to qualifying worked with children with disabilities for 10 years and since qualifying has worked as an OT in a specialist school. Beatrice undertook specialist sensory integration training for this role, and this is another approach she is passionate about. This specialist knowledge of how the brain processes sensory information has greatly enhanced Beatrice’s clinical reasoning and her understanding of how certain areas of impairment impact on function.
Beatrice says, ‘I love working in neurorehab. It’s an area which demands a holistic approach to achieve meaningful goals set by the client. It needs positive risk taking alongside complex clinical reasoning’.
Outside of work Beatrice enjoys being out and about with her very active children, and is also trying to renovate a house.
